James May, who is a renowned figure all over the UK for being a car enthusiast, TV personality, and “Captain Slow” as the show has now famously dubbed him - is also well known for his harsh criticism of electric cars. However, the popular presenter opened up to Radio 4 this weekend and announced that he will be joining the queue to invest in an electric model.
For those who are avid fans of the show, you be shocked to hear that. For those who don’t watch it, a Top Gear presenter would possibly be the last person you would expect to be publicly backing the form of transport.
However, taking that into account he seemed more than enthusiastic during the interview when he said ‘they are absolutely fabulous’, May added ‘we've known for a long time, that electric power is the ideal way to propel a car’ and overall that he ‘quite liked’ the premise of electric cars.
It can only be positive news to see such a prominent figure in the car industry singing the praises of the best alternative method of transport around, and hopefully his fans will support the change of attitude.
However, he did voice some concerns regarding the infrastructure that is currently in place to deal with the charging of vehicles. However, having a honest and forth discussion with the big names in the car industry about the problems with the current infrastructure, can only further any improvement that does need to be made.
